About Us

The San Jose All Friends Group was founded in 2006 to help coordinate resources and share information, expertise and knowledge relevant to Friends of the Library groups and the San Jose Public Library system.

The San Jose All Friends group is made up of one or more members from the Friends of the Library group at the main King Library and the 22 local branches of the award-winning San Jose Public Library.  Each Friends group at its own library raises funds, mostly through book sales, to support special programs and additions to the collection at its own library. The All Friends group meets quarterly to learn about recent activities at other branches and to hear news about the main San Jose Public Library and citywide library events.

Friends of the Library Groups

The Friends of the San José Public Library are volunteers who support, advocate, and raise funds for a neighborhood library. Each Friends group supports a specific San José Public Library branch with book sales and other activities.

Most of the 22 local branch libraries have some books for sale whenever the library is open.  These books are located in a small section of shelves called “Friends Book Sale Area” or “Friends Book Nook” with a selection of fiction, non-fiction, children’s, and often some other categories.  In addition, the branches have a larger book sale several times each year, varying between twice each year to as often as four times per year, depending on the amount of book and media donations at each branch.  The funds raised from the book and media sales go to that branch library for special programs and additions to their collection.

The main King Library has a bookstore for sales of their donations.
